Interns with ServeNext will have the opportunity to play an important role at an innovative organization that is working to reinvigorate our country’s commitment to service and active citizenship as a strategy to address our most pressing social problems. Internships offer great-hands on experiences and exciting, but challenging work. ServeNext’s activities are at the crossroad of field and online organizing, public policy, advocacy, and civic engagement.

All positions are 20-30 hours per week preferred; start and end dates are flexible. All interns will have some administrative responsibilities. Please email info@servenext.org with any questions.

Field Organizing Intern

Responsibilities include:
1) Support ServeNext Action Networks across the country;
2) Develop and implement outreach strategies to mobilize communities for various initiatives;
3) Draft and develop outreach and/or recruitment materials as necessary;
4) Build strong relationships with civic leaders, advocacy organizations, and other stakeholders.

Applicants should have great interpersonal and communication skills, good on the phone, and a passion for social justice and active citizenship.

Additional desired qualifications:
-Demonstrated experience in developing and managing large outreach/mobilization campaigns;
-Demonstrated experience in organizing individuals to take action on issues; -Ability to communicate well and work effectively with a diverse variety of constituencies;
-Strong writing and editing skills;
-A resourceful self-starter who can take initiative and follow through on projects;
-Attention to detail and strong organizational skills;

Online Communications Intern

Location: Washington, DC; can work virtually some hours.

Two main responsibilities include:
1) Blogging about national service, civic engagement, volunteerism, and a range of other issues: politics, social justice, social media, etc. Creativity, wit, and opinions are encouraged. Interviewing interesting leaders in the field may also be a part of the gig.

2) Reaching out and connecting with other folks who are writing and thinking about similar topics; potentially representing ServeNext at events around DC; helping to increase blog and website activity around the country and among specific audiences.

For interested applicants, a smaller role may include helping to monitor and analyzing our web traffic stats, and suggest strategic changes in website content and layout.

Graphic Design Intern

Location: Washington, DC preferred, but working virtually is an option; hours are flexible.

The Graphic Design Intern will have the opportunity to work with ServeNext staff to brainstorm and create visually appealing graphics for a variety of campaigns. As a national organization, this intern’s work will be displayed to a large audience and credited on the ServeNext website.

Responsibilities may include:
1) Creating campaign and event logos and collateral
2) Developing a series of e-cards for a viral marketing campaign
3) Website and email graphics

Applicants should be great communicators, creative, and skilled with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or a similar program.

Membership Intern

Location: Washington, DC; can work virtually some hours.

This internship will assist in recruiting, building, and improving ServeNext’s membership – one of the organization’s most important components.

Responsibilities include:
1) Helping devise an efficient recruitment and communication strategies both online and offline.
2) Identifying and reaching out to potential organizational partners who have memberships.
3) Collaborating with ServeNext’s Field Department to more effectively reach and mobilize new members or existing ones.
4) Writing and conducting member surveys.
5) Analyzing member activity levels for the Field Team
